Rory Dawson / Kwaxalagalis

I am from the remote village of Gwayi (Kingcome Inlet) and of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation. I descend from the ‘Wiyukwamayi’ (mountain goat hunter) clan of the Musgamawg Dzawada'enuwx Tribe. Being deeply immersed in many aspects of my culture at an early age, I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to study alongside and observe many accomplished talented artists.

The concepts of my work comes from the worlds we accept as true from the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation I was born into.

The many ninuyam (creation stories, legends) told to me come from this mortal world, supernatural world, undersea world, sky world and spirit world, is where my inspiration comes from where I strive to bring these spirits and beings alive through my jewelery.
